A few weeks ago something happened out of the blue - Got a phone call at night from Denmark. It was my old buddy and fellow forumite Henning Kock. We talked for a few minutes and then he made an offer that came totally unexpected. Henning told me that he is selling Lloyd Green's famous JCH guitar which he bought from him in 2004 as he is now over 70 years old and does not get around playing steel that much anymore (although he is still musically active). Wow!
I asked Henning to give me a few days to think about it, but in my mind I had already decided that I would take this chance. A steel that was owned and played by Lloyd Green, used on studio recordings with Ricky Skaggs, Dolly Parton and other famous artists!
Henning is a great guy, he just asked for the same price he had paid 10 years ago and said that he would also pay for shipping the guitar to me via Fedex. We finally agreed to split that cost and now - here it stands in my room and I am looking at this historical instruments as I write this.
A beautiful guitar, crafted by Jimmie Crawford himself, exactly the way Lloyd wanted it to be. Plays so smooth and is in perfect shape. Henning did not change anything about the setup and neither will I. Jimmie Crawford even included the parts for adding the lowering string 4 change but they will stay in the case, no alterations will be made. I had the pleasure of speaking with Lloyd a few days ago and he told me he always enjoyed recording with this great instrument.
Thanks to you, Henning, for your gracious offer to make that possible!
Best Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com

Is this the guitar Lloyd played when he and Tommy White did their video recording?
I don't remember if it was....just that I thought his tone on that VHS recording was great!! |

Walter,
Can you share some pictures of the underside? And I like to see what's going on with the RLR lever.

Walter,
Has owning this steel given you more incentive to play? Just knowing that Lloyd owned and played this steel would breathe new life into my playing and I would try incessantly to eek out all those sweet sounds. Man, what a super experience!
Congratulations and good luck with it, |

Well, if anyone should have it, it's you, Walter – seeing how much you have done to promote Lloyd's music for many years. Good luck! |

John,
In one word - YES! I found myself practicing more since the guitar arrived. As for the "sweet sounds" - tone is superb but the playing is far away from what Lloyd used to play on it. I hope the guitar doesn't mind.

Manna from Heaven.
What a wonderful piece of history, falling into the hands of someone who will truly cherish it.
AND play it. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

I have been enjoying playing this JCH pedal steel ten years from 2004-2014, and I remember, that when I bought it in April 2004 and took it out of the box and played “Making Believe†and “One Has My Nameâ€. Never as good as Lloyd, but the tone was there. Like magic.
When I was allowed the great honour to buy Lloyds JCH pedal steel guitar in 2004, I promised him to let him know, that if I ever would sell it I would let him know first, and so I did.
With the massive decline of playing jobs nowadays, and my own age, I had been thinking of selling it to a younger player for some time. The one person, that came to my mind first, deserving to own and play it most was Walter Stettner because ot his dedication and work with his website about Lloyd and his music: www.lloydgreentribute.com.
I never cease to admire Walter Stettner in Vienna, Austria, for his fine continuos work on this the Lloyd Green tribute page. This is something we all can enjoy and benefit from. Sound clips, photos, text and more.
If you did not see this fine website before, check it out now. It is www.lloydgreentribute.com
I am glad, that all involved persons are happy about that this is the obvious right thing to do.
Lloyd told Walter on the phone a week ago, that when Henning bought this JCH it in 2004 it came to the right place, and when you, Walter, bought it in 2014 it came to the right place.
Best regards,
Henning
