I'm considering buying a new lap steel. I'm looking at Dillion Model DLS-006E or a Ram Guitars Speakeasy. Does anyone have any experience with these? Pros and cons? Recommendations?
Thanks

I think Dwight Lewis still has a VERY nice 8 string Speakeasy for sale, and it's a great price to boot. You oughta check into it.

If you care about supporting the the idea of American Made Products the Ram is your Choice.

Price wise - Dwight is is selling an awesome one for pennies on the dollar on the Forum which will support the forum as well.

Ron Makes amazing instruments at RAM - all of the American Builders can use the sales.

My opinion...I own 2 of Ron's lap steels with a total of 3 necks. Incredible fit and finish and most importantly they play and sound amazing. Anything from gnarly rock and blues to swing and Hawaiian they do the job. Here's a look at my latest Ram from Ron. Lot of bang for the buck and Ron is great to work with.

I've never seen one of the Dillions up close, but something that caught my eye in their advertisement is "adjustable truss rod". I don't think that's a thing you need or want in a lap steel. Sounds like they've just adapted a standard guitar neck for use in the lap steel. I'm not an expert, but I'm thinking there are reasons lap steels have big square solid necks.

Ronnie makes some good guitars. He is really priced well under what he should be charging. He's super easy to work with , call or email him he's more that happy to answer any questions ...

I'm on number 3 and am thinking about a forth...I don't have a goldtop yet Smile
