My name is Louis Armentaro. I am trying to find out if there are any pedal steel guitarists who are still playing pedal steel whether at home or gigs anywhere yet. I am interested in finding out the oldest as of this date October 2014. I am 90 years old as of Sept. 23, 2014. Is there anyone there older as I sure would like to visit with them. I would like to claim the title unless there is an older player who still plays pedal steel. Someone let me know. I have a twin ten Sierra pedal steel and a twin Mullen pedal steel. Write me at lousteeler2@msn.com Would be a pleasure hearing from you. Regards, Louis Armentaro from Livingston, Montana.

Howdy louis
I don’t think you have much competition on your request , although -- there is a lot of us who feel 90 but still have a way to go to get that far down the road .

there is a grate article about your entertainment ventures in the Bozeman Daily .

I will declare you the winner -- take care

Louis, I suspect that there may be some older, but they're probably not active on the internet, or, because of arthritis or other ailments, have given up playing. Let's hope you'll be the first recorded steel guitarist to perform at his hundredth birthday.
We can all look forward to that. Winking

I think Leonard T Zinn from Michigan is in that age range, and I know is still very active. He just played the Big steel show In St. Louis.

Congratulations Louis!

An age-related story:
I was at a local Casino show recently where a family group of four Metis brothers put on a fabulous show. Their mother was in the audience and she was introduced as being 92 years of age. She danced many times during the evening and even did some great jigging. She also enjoyed several brewskies during the evening and gave a new meaning to "you're never too old". I saw it with my own eyes and I still have a hard time believing how spry this lady was. So Louis, I hope you keep picking for many more years.

Louis, I am quiet a ways behind you at 54 years of age. My wife threw me a surprise 50th birthday party and I got to play my steel there with several friends. That being said, I have invited them back for my 100th birthday party to do it all over again. I probably cannot carry my steel but I sure plan on playing. Congratulations to you playing steel at 90 years of age. Guys like you inspire me to keep going on.

That's great! I'd say Louis is guilty until proven innocent on this one. Wink

Congratulations again to you, Chubby. Tell me where you're playing. I don't get out much, at my age Laughing , but you never know when I might stop by where you're playing.
