Hey everyone.. just curious when it comes time to throw in a random solo I always tend to gravitate towards soloing in the pedals down position because that's where I know most of my "go-to" licks. So for example if the solo is in "G" I will rarely start on the 3rd,6th(A+F) or 15th fret but will most of the time automatically go to the 10th fret and use AB pedals. Sometimes I do go 2 frets down from the pedals down position and drop my E's for a more C6th type of voicing. Or i'll use the BC pedals and dink around on frets 5,4,3 when solo'ing in G.. but that's about it.
Do you guys have any tasty licks in the open pedal positions or any other positions other than the pedals down position. Or maybe i'm not alone? most likely I am though haha

You're not alone. The AB position does seem to flow better
Silver Wings always plays on the open frets, my version uses strings 1&2 extensively

Practice starting a solo from the other positions. Using the same scale tones & harmonizations can get tedious. Find licks to use over pickup notes - like counting 1-2-3-4-1 then 3 pickups - you can use in A+F (fret 6 for GMaj), no pedals(3 or 15), and even the E to Eb lever (fret 8 ) for a sixth tuning sound. Just some ideas.

ya I guess I just need to sit down with some back tracks and come up with licks and solo's in the open pedal position. I was hoping someone out there had some tasty licks I could borrow though haha
