In the late 50's (around 1957)would the decal on a Stringmaster have been applied over the final finish (like on a Strat or a Tele) or before the final clear coat so it was under the finish?
Thanks in advance |

I don't believe there was a clear coat, at least on the nitro finishes. The decal sits on top... any attempt to finish over a decal is doomed, the decal would degrade. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

Thanks Stephen,
That's pretty much what I thought but wanted to check. |

That having been said, I work with a lot of decals on my model railway, and the instructions for their use, no matter which brand, say to seal them with a protective finish. When I restored Basil's Stringmaster, after I applied the logo I sealed it with artists' clear fixative, the sort they make for protecting sketches, etc. I did the same when I restored my Sho-Bud Crossover.
