Sorry to say that Buddy doesn't play at home. (At least that's what he says...)
Also, no, he didn't play on the Reunion show. Teea said he told some great stories, though.
BTW: The picture was flipped...

In a way I can understand him not playing steel at home. It probably reminds him of the strain of public performance and all that studio work. Remember, to him it was his job.
I spent 45 years as an accountant. Now, since I retired, I find the very idea of looking at accounts abhorrent. I don;t even do my tax returns, I leave that to my wife. |

I talked to Buddie last year at the Nashville Super Jam. He told me that he couldn't play anymore. His hands are in bad shape and he can't play. He is a wonderful man with a great career to show what talent he has.

So... Whats the "secret tuning" Sid refers to in the 2012 thread?
He demonstrated for me a different tuning that he came up with 20 or more years ago.
It appears to be significantly more sophisticated than the current standard C6th tuning we all play today.
It has a B on the top string and an additional C note in the middle of the tuning.
He told me that he used this tuning on his White Sierra back when he was playing Sierra.
The single note lines he can play with this tuning boggles the mind. The notes are closer together allowing for more chromatic sounding lines.

Maurice had this on his 12 string lap C6. Top to bottom DBGECAGECAFD. Cool Maj7 with three finger picks if you can spread your grip wide enough.

Wondering if Buddy had a 5th scale note as the 3rd string. He seems to prefer the 3rd scale note before the re-entrants.
Maybe Sid (or Buddy) could clarify the tuning. Sounds interesting.
