Topic: Mullen Royal Precision with adjustable raise helper springs? |

Looking for anyone who knows for sure whether the Mullen Royal Precision steels have adjustable raise springs.
I've looked on the website - no sign that they do. I've called Mullen but they're at the St. Louis convention. Shot an email to them, but in the meantime I've got an opportunity to do a deal on one in which the dealer is saying that Yes, some RP's do have adjustable raise helper springs.
I'd appreciate any clarification that anyone can offer, especially someone who can confirm that Yes, some RP's Do have them.

They do not come with raise helpers from the factory that I know of. It was introduced on the G2 model..However, thats not to say that there are not any modified ones out there. I have not seen single a mullen guitar that "needed" them, as the action in all their models is very manageable...

Thanks Mickey,that's helpful. My situation is that I'm no longer a spring chicken, having arthritic joints, etc. and need a nice smooth easy action. It may be that the RP has good enough action so that I wouldn't need to fight it.

All the Royal Precisions that I've seen has had raise helper springs. I'm not sure about the adjustability thou.

Peter,
That's interesting. It may explain the disconnect I'm experiencing with a dealer saying it does have raise helper springs, but not being able to find anything on the website that addresses adjustments, or seeing anything in the photos that shows an way to adjust them.

Most helpers are not adjustable. Zum and JCH are

As far as I know, only the lower return springs are adjustable

In the picture on this listing, it looks like the helper springs ( between the deck and the pullrods) do not adjust, but hook up to a bar.

Speculation until settled - maybe tiny screws recessed in the hoods just above where the springs connect to the raise fingers?

| Peter, thank you for posting that pic. Could be Mullen guitar company has changed to the adjustable springs with screws since that photo was posted. I can't imagine my guitars would be any different than a stock model. The mystery continues! |

Strikes me that at the bar end, you could swap the springs for the type that accepts a screw; if someone's done this at some point it might explain the confusion.
But like Tommy says, tough to get at once it's all rodded up.

The Royal and G2 both have helpers springs. Neither are adjustable. We calculated the optimum pulling pressure when we decided on the spring.
Again have them but do not adjust!!!! |

I'm building a guitar with helpers. Making them fully adjustable is too difficult, but I want to go one better than having them all hooked to one bar. I calculate that the best tension for each spring varies between 4 and 8 pounds, so I've made a plate with holes at one-pound intervals (the springs are rated 4.52 lb/in so a pound is 0.22").
The pins are fitted where I think they should go. It's possible that they might be movable once the plate is installed - certainly no harder than getting a screwdriver in there.
