Fender Deluxe 6 & 8 nut length

Are they the same length? It appears that Carvin Pro 6 and Pro 8 use the same length nut with different string spacing.the Carvin nut is just shy of 2 1/2 " and the string spacing is 1/4" .And somehow the nut on mine was shaved or whatever even with the bottom of the string slot on the high E string,crazy huh?So I figure I can make a roller nut using bass guitar string ball ends to act as a string slot.I just have to find some old bass strings.
