Hey Gang,
Just ordered the ebony capped bridge inserts from Resophonic Outfitters. Any tips for removing the current, glued-in maple ones?

Before you remove it, measure the height, you'll probably have to sand the new ones to match the old.
I use a small chisel and just split them and pull out the pieces. Watch your fingers.

I just took my fingers and put presure on it and it came right out. If you got a raised one do not sand it just put a little Elmers glue on it and push it in place and not a lot of glue. Let it set for about a Half hour and then put your string on. The strings will help set it up.

The bridge inserts should be a snug fit in the spider slot. No glue should be required to keep them in place IMHO. They should also seat fully into the slot.

If not seated fully the transfer of energy is diminished and tone will be compromised.

Here's a picture of a glued-in insert from a Galveston resonator that I did some work on for a friend. Notice it is one piece. The insert itself is only 1/16" thick and it was installed in a 1/8" wide slot. Obviously the only way it could be secured was to originally glue it in place. The insert was warped from string tension the point of it cracking so I pried it out and replaced it with an custom one piece ebony-capped one. It was also interesting to note that the adjustment screw was also glued in place, preventing any tension adjustment. I don't know how "normal" this is with inexpensive guitars so buyer beware.
