Has anyone ever made a 22.5 inch scale, resonator guitar?
I was just wondering if or any drawbacks to making one.

Cool video Bill! Same folks who had a big hit with Maria Elena, correct?
For the purpose of this discussion, since this is after all the SGF, I'm assuming Eric is referring to a lap-syle resonator guitar.
I can't speak for any professional reso luthiers, but I would imagine that a 22.5" lap-style scale guitar would have less sustain - maybe a tighter, more focused sound.
Eric, aside from it being potentially more "slant friendly," I'm curious what motivated you to bring this up?

Thank you Bill, I'm aware of that, but since Eric started this thread in Steel Without Pedals I am under the assumption that he has a specific purpose lap-style guitar in mind.

| Didn't Beard Guitars show a small, squareneck "travel" guitar on their website a while back? I think it was 22.5 or 23" scale and built around their 9" mandolin resonator and spider. This was an acoustic, not the Road-o-Phonic. |

Supro made a simple resonator guitar with a 22.5" scale in the late 30s (wood body).
National made two (solid body) models in the fifties, # 1133 and # 1033 (lap steel). They often show up on ebay.
Republic guitars offer a 22.5 " scale resonator guitar with a 9.5" biscuit resonator (steel or brass body). |
