Rookie Clinesmith owner here. I noticed that unlike all the other tuners, the screws that "hold" the 4th tuning machine to the keyhead are dumbies, and don't hold the tuner to anything. There is a metal plate between the tuning machine and the keyhead. That plate extends down through the body and contacts an adjustment mechanism underneath the guitar. (See lousy photos above)

I'm not having a problem with the adjustment of the 4th string, I just don't know the purpose of the "odd" difference of this particular tuning machine.

Another thing I'd like help with is...what is the proper method or sequence to tune the pedals. The adjustments on the bridge are a vertically placed hex screw, and an opposing horizontal set screw that appears to lock in the adjusting screw. It looks very simple, but I'm having problems keeping the pedal adjustment from affecting the open string tuning.

Have you tried Todd? I can usually figure these out, but I've never seen a Clinesmith up close.

Thanks Lane, no, I haven't asked Todd, yet. I know he's busy with other projects...Including a new guitar for me Smile I thought I'd see what help I can get here, first. Maybe he'll chime in, but I don't wanna bother him just yet.

My questions have been answered. Turns out the adjustable pivoting tuner was an innovative change to obtain a 7th chord. This one can be closed.
