I have converted my Starter from the standard E9th tuning to a Don Helms E13th .I've removed all knee levers,but have kept the 3 foot pedals.
Any suggestions on how I might take advantage of them? Perhaps in raising or lowering strings in the E13th tuning.
Thanks for any and all reply's.

Don Helms' E13th is baked into in the standard E9th tuning. Don never played the B and C# strings together. All you have to do is keep your foot over the first pedal, use it for the C# or don't use it for the B. He didn't use bar slants.

Every Don Helms solo can be played note-for-note at the same frets on a standard E9th tuning.

Sometimes he did, for example the intro to Honky Tonk Blues here:

where you hear
C# B G# strings together at fret 17
E C# B strings together at frets 20,19

On your Starter, you can find all the notes 5 frets lower than Don Helms did, using pedals down giving you an A6 tuning.

Or, the part that Don played at frets 20 & 19 you can play at frets 18 and 17 (using strings 1 2 5) which would sound a little closer to Don.

Thanks for the replies and info,but what I mean to ask is what might I do with the 3 foot pedals.I was wondering if I might use them to raise or lower some strings in the E 13th tuning itself.
Again thanks for any suggestions

p1: B to C#
p2: G# to A
p3: C# to D and high E to F#

ooops my remarks were addressing a standard E9 with 3 pedals.
b0b's ideas are nice for your pedals. But it may be hard to learn to mute the C# string when you (un-)raise the B string, to avoid sympathetic vibrations. One fix for that might be
C# -> +D
B -> ++C#
on the same pedal.

It might be useful to lower G# to G on a pedal. But with a Starter, your options may be limited.

Does your E13 have a D string? I thought Don Helms played E6 with no D string.
