when did internet begging become an accepted form of business.
example...hey everyone, send me some money so i can work on this project that will benefit 'me'.
if it doesn't come to pass, thanks, i'll just live on the money you sent me. thanks suckers!
i've gotten requests like this from songwriter friends who i used to respect.

Been following this for a few years now.
I kicked in for a DVD and a few other things. If Denny doesn't make the amount he needs, nobody gets charged a cent.
Let's get that out there right now.
In my day job, we licence titles in some of our games.... at time of writing we are working with the Lawyers representing Rogers and Hammerstein, Elmer Bernstein and a few other writers. The negotiations can be like wading waist deep in mud at times.
Denny Tedesco's efforts seem Herculean by comparison. At the end of the day it is a movie about how a lot of mainstream pop music was made in the latter part of the 20th Century. It is also a movie celebrating the working life of sidemen and women everywhere.
I'd like to see it.
Better still, I have an opportunity to own it on DVD for a reasonable price.
I also want to see the guy get his father's story out there.
This is a worthy cause IMO.
YMMV and all that guff

alright i checked it out more. maybe there's something to it in this case. and out of respect for tommy tedesco i'll shut up.
too bad it couldn't be more of a deal like that horror movie that those kids made for next to nothing and then it made tons of money. |

If you feel like I do, spread the link, throw it up on your facebook, tweet or post it to other forums you belong to. I know a bunch of musicians and music lovers that had no idea this movie existed, chances are you do to.

I can't wait to see it ! The kickstarter thing worked so hopefully nothing else will get in the way.
I kinda like that a bunch of music lovers got together to save this project.

Jerry,Because Jerry Cole was and did work for the FBI I think that is why he's not named. But, as always most get credit for what they don't do anyway. Just look at me with Bill & Fran Boyd & Dick Clark with The Academy Of Country Music History and all you guys who helped support and make it what is was not what it is today. What is tacky about crowdfunding? It's the 21st century, and independent artists are trying to be heard with less support from record company money than ever... The way Kickstarter works is, if they don't reach their goal, then they don't get any of the money. I have several friends (who are working pro musicians) and a brother who have financed/recorded/released cd's using Kickstarter. If you have a fanbase that will support you, why not?
Want to alienate your fanbase and blacklist yourself from future opportunites? Run a successful Kickstarter campaign and don't deliver the goods afterward.
Also, I do see in the past there have been some successful "steel guitar related" Kickstarter campaigns too:

FWIW, I read the Wrecking Crew book and it was a GREAT read. I loved the chapter about Bill Strange receiving a $63,000 royalty check from BMI and being afraid to cash it because he feared they'd made a mistake (he wrote "Limbo Rock" which was eventually recorded by Chubby Checker).

...well...because it sounds like begging to me. if you have a worthwhile product, save your money so you can produce it. maybe work a deal with investors who get a return on their money.
or now, in the modern age, beg for it and act like an entitled person.that's slimey as a television evangelist. |

Apparently so. I don't see the slimeyness. Nobody is forcing anybody to back anything.
How about feeling some pride that your fanbase contributed 10K because they want to hear your next cd?. If you don't want to contribute money towards a kickstarter project, then don't do it; it's as simple as that.
Anyway, like it or not, you'll be seeing a lot more crowdsharing in the future as artists try to keep releasing music in this era of spotify and streaming music. Check out artist share; Jim Hall's 1975 live box sets were released there. https://www.artistshare.com/v4/ |

It would take a long time to"save up"enough money to cover the costs of making a
"Wrecking Crew"...
I'm just glad somebody went to the trouble.
I've seen this movie more than once...it deserves to be out,by whatever means. |
