Topic: Dobro/ What kind of cone??? |

I bought a new Dobro F-60 about 3 months ago
plays & sounds good. I am wondering if the Gibson company are using the quarter man cones in their resenator guitars. If not does the quarterman cones really make it louder. I am using Dobro strings & playing E
tunning. Thank you for your response. |

As far as I know, the Quarterman cone is not standard equipment on the current crop of Gibson Dobro® guitars. I would guess that installing this cone would improve the tone of your Dobro® but might not make it louder.

| I replaced the cone on a Dobro Hawaiian and the volume was no different but the tone was a step up. |

The cone is part of the sound but the setup is the most.

| You might also check out the nut material and the setup on the bridge inserts. Bone or ivory on the nut and ebony topped bridge inserts make alot of difference. Good picking to you. |

I noticed that a Quarterman cone is louder, especially the base strings. At the same time, the over all tone is brighter than the more mellow Dobro sound of the old cone. As memtioned above, the nut and brdge also make a big difference as well.
