According to Wes at Austin Speaker Service, a total tech head who did great work on a JBL of mine as well as an Altec Lansing, the amount of actual efficiency lost... that is, volume... is really negligible and that putting an 8 ohm speaker in a 4 ohm amp is okay with relatively little lost.

| Like Jay says, O.C.S. is the best in the business. I wouldn't recone them just to make them 4 ohms! There are no original parts left for these speakers, (the "D" series goes back about 50 years!). Generic, or other "name" cone kits from JBL and Peavey do an adequate job of maintaining the sound, since most of the "sound" of these speakers comes from that (relatively) small Alnico magnet they used. The old "D" series had low efficiency compared to today's speakers. |

| If you are looking to recone so you can use the JBL in a Twin Reverb, you can consider keeping the speaker original and dropping a Single Showman Output Transformer in your Twin. If you aren't modifying a Twin Reverb, then ignore this. |

| Try Freeman-Tuell in Dallas on Ferguson Rd. They have done work for me and are an authorized JBL repair facility. BTW, when are you coming to the shop? |

Put me in with the fellow above who recommended Woody Waddell in Goodlettsville, TN. He's been doing my Lansings since the early 70's (after Carl Hudgins died) and I have NEVER had a problem with a spkr he did. BTW, he uses the RIGHT parts, not Waldom stuff. His # is 615-851-7058. He's listed in the book as "Benchcraft." He also makes some of the finest cases in the business. He's made 3 for me, as well as a whole host of amp covers (hardshell).

Orange County speaker is a great operation.
It is owned and operated by Gary Sunda former
R&D engineer at Randall Amplifiers. Garys wife Sharon ran this operation while Gary was
involved with Don Randall since the beginning of Randall amps. After Don sold Randall amps Gary resigned and went back in to the speaker business with his wife Sharon.
They do excellent work and have many original parts for most major speakers.
Gary designed all of Randalls amps,,,his most
popular was the RG-80 a great combo amp,,not really for steel,,but the best sounding combo
I have heard,,,,,solid state but with the warm sound of tube amps.
Give em a try,,,,you wont be sorry...His Randall Steelman amp was a killer amp,,I had one,,,heavy as hell but great sounding. |

| Bill, The last speaker I had at Woody Woodells was $100 and that's a D-130 4 ohm. He does a bunch of speakers for just about everybody here. |

I Had Woody Woodell Do (2) 130"s for me and I couldn't be happier. He reconed them to 4 ohms and they sound great. I highly recommend Woody and he Stands by his excellent service.
