I ran into a young aspiring steeler today at a local guitar store. He was looking for some help with the steel he had just bought on ebay. I said that I would take a look. It is one of the walnut burl formica Mavericks, and has been hot rodded by someone. I think that all of the parts are there, just wildly out of regulation. Does anyone have some pictures of the underside of one of these guitars showing the correct parts and setup? I know that there are a lot of forumites that he could send it to for setup, but he has very little money so it isn't worth directing him to anyone else. I have worked on Emmons push-pulls, Sho-Buds, BMIs, MSAs, and MCIs. I can get around O.K. with most set up work, but it helps to know what should be under there.

You're right - the knee lever lowers 2 and 8 a half step. They are the only lowers on the guitar. There should be two return springs, one for finger 2 and one for finger 8. Those two fingers are "push" activated.
The standard three pedals are raises that "pull" the fingers. They don't use (or need) springs.

With the factory set-up, there are no springs connected to any of the fingers of the Maverick, nor are any of the fingers 'pushed'. The knee-lever's cross-shaft is spring-loaded, holding fingers #2 & #8 at their higher notes (D# on #2 and E on # . When the knee-lever is activated, the spring pressure is overcome and the two fingers are released to go down to their lower notes (D on #2 and D# on #.

Well....OK not that technical. I just wanted to make sure that there were no missing parts. After all, it is an Ebay Maverick.
Thanks b0b and Russ, the underside was as Russ described it. I redid the setup in a few minutes today and everything is working.

Mike, you can always count on me for technical advise. Call anytime. I have all the Maverick parts also. This guitar can be made to play and sound pretty "cotton picken' good" , in spite of how inexpensive it is.
