Wilmer McCormick is a good friend of mine and he's been playing and building steel guitars for many years.
Every steel he builds is all hand done and he's a great and knowledgable non pedal steel player.
He has built some of the most unique steel guitars that you will ever see and they all sound great. He devised and built a 4 neck steel that you can rotate and play four different tunings. They are amazing instruments and the tone is super!
Call Wilmer, he's a great guy and you will enjoy talking to him.

You won't find a nicer guy than Wilmer McCormick!
He knew Shot Jackson,Ernest Tubb, Hank Sr and a lot of the greats!

Terry,
Those are words of truth. Wilmer is one of the most honest people that I know. When he makes a guitar it is almost everything hand made. He winds the pick ups by hand and they always have that good sound.
Thanks for giving him a good up!!
Thanks and God bless,

Well, Terry, I'm sure he is a great guy and honest as the day is long, but man, have you looked closely at the above picture?
It would appear that the keyheads were hacksawed out of solid stock. That must have taken some time. I wonder why he did not just buy some keyheads from a manufacturer? You can get them dirt cheap, if you do your own polishing.
Anyway, just saying.
No doubt he is a great guy and all.
Looks like he made this one with machined keyheads though.
At least he puts some time and effort in his work! |

I am sorry this is not worth $500. I don't want to offend any body To me this is poorly done. The keyhead on the back neck is off center and looks like it is drooping over the edge. _________________ LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA |

Yeah, I have to agree. I bet Wilmer just likes to tinker with making steels. I do not wish to hurt anyones feelings, but this will never sell for 500.00.
In fact, one would be hard pressed to part it out, as the only thing even remotely standard MAY be the pickups.
Oh well, it may be worth 500.00 to Wilmer, if nothing else.
Wouldn't it be funny if this was just a dry prank on all of us? Sort of like choosing the wrong curtain on the show "Lets make a deal"............. |

Wilmer, you must realize that since this is a steel guitar forum, that MOST people understand and appreciate true value when they see it. Quite frankly, I'm surprised that more have not razzed you for posting this home steel, with the audacity of asking 500.00! Some folks may take offence and consider it an insult that you would even dream to sell it to a forumite for that kind of money. Man, what were you thinking?.

You're speaking of yourself in the third person....
Does that mean you will take 500.00 for the steel, but the buyer must pay for shipping?
This has to be a setup........
I think I fell for it! |

How in the world could someone get a patent on that "rotisserie" steel!?
The steel is worth whatever the copper winding in the pickups and the aluminum in the "keyheads" weigh.
I guess Wilmer is serious about 500.00........
Man.....

David,
I really don't think that Curt would understand the raw talent that went into the making of this guitar. There were many hours of hand work that most of us don't even think of how it can be done with the craftiness and care with the tools that this man had to work with. This is a true hand made guitar. The only parts that were purchased were the tuners. They can't be made very well with only hand tools, don't you think? Wilmer didn't recieve an education like a lots of our members did and all of this came for the love of the steel guitar that he has. I am a see'er and a believer in his skills and have good reasons to appreciate them. You see I am a tool maker and can make anything with the proper equipment but will have a problem with just hand tools. In his own rights he is a craftsman.
Thanks all for listening. Wilmer is like the inside of your hand, what you see is what you get. I am proud to be one of his friends.
God bless all
