I have seen all the models of Gibson lap steels (at least I think I have)until I saw this Gibson Century. This one looks like it might have a Humbucker in it the pickup is wide enough.

Someone take a look at this and report what you think.

Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars states it as model Century-6 from '66-'68. The pickup looks like a Firebird pickup. A search on Gibson website dates this as '61, but I believe Mr. Gruhn is right...

Mark: I have one of these instruments. The pickup is a mini-humbucker (a "Firebird"), and the cherry finish is similar to an SG or Les Paul.
As Max says, they were made for only a couple of years, and you only have to look at the position markers and peghead design to recognize that those years were in the late sixties; a friend described the look of these guitars as "bell bottoms and lava lamps." If the bidding doesn't get totally out of line, this would be worth picking up - these are GREAT sounding guitars, and quite rare. Apart from the one I own, the only other one I've seen was one a friend bought from the same dealer who sold me mine.

Thanks for the replies. I thought it might be a PAF Humbucker but after looking again you guys are right it does look like the pickups a Firebird used. Its a cool looking steel and is rare.

Thanks for the info I knew someone here would know about that model.
