Andy,
That was great to hear the recording of Dick.
Do you have a recording of Twilight Blues with Dick playing steel? That recording displays his talent even more so. He does some great licks on this recording.
Aloha,

I have a few 90 minute tapes from Hal Smith's collection of all Dick McIntire 78s that he was kind enough to give me. Personally, I think they sound better than the Cumquats--I don't mind the hiss and surface noise. He was such a wonderful player, one of my favorites. _________________ http://www.steelinstruction.com/

Don, yes Twilight Blues is a great track. Yes, the frypan contributed to Dick's great sound but much more important (IMHO) was his touch and overall sensibilities. He would have sounded great on any guitar. |

Thanks for the posts guys. Now, Les, I see that it is $1.00 for one and 32c for the other. Will I get a discount if I take both??
C'on Doug, do you really need all that sheet music? Would look great in my music room wall
Seriously - I wonder how much of this stuff 'lies in wait' under beds and in cupboards and music cases.
I got a box of old Hawaiian music books etc given to me when someone was clearing out their fathers stuff. He wont part with the old resophonic uke though and now its "somewhere at my brothers - he may have gotten rid of it"
Must go through the box again, only some specific steel guitar stuff though.
I'll scan and post if people are interested. I'll list whats there.

No Worries Don. BTW, I've watched your u-tube clips and yor Sir, are a master.
Now here the list, more steel guitar than I thought but only some has TAB or as they call it "Diagrams"
You would need to know the melodies or really know your sight reading for the others.
"Smith Presents Familiar music for Hawaiian Guitar"
" Smiths Tuneful Melodies for Hawaiian Guitar"
Radio Favorites for Hawaiian Guitar" by Henri Weber
"Robbins Hawaiian Guitar Folio for popular and production songs" No's 6,7 & 10
Popular Hit Folio for Steel Guitar and Ukulele - - Truett George
Popular Hit Folio for Steel Guitar arranged in the Petersen System by Keoki E. Awai
Roy Smeck - Radios Wizdard of the Strings - Five Modern Solos for Hawaiian Guitar and Piano
Allans Hawaiian Song Folio No 2
Smith's Hawaiian Melodies No 1
The Superior Collection of Steel Guitar Solos Vol 2 by Keoki E. Awai
Joe Davis' Guitar Song Folio for Hawaiian and Spanish guitar - John Martell No 1 - 26 songs in all
all of the above have the Tab the rest (9 or so books) are just notation
I think I'll scan the covers/contents if interest is there and post but wont have time today.
Cheers

I'm still interested, Jeff. I would like to see the content.
I will be eventually posting other videos on YouTube which will be better than the ones that you referred to. There were some problems with those first videos without going into the details. Nevertheless glad that you enjoyed them.
Aloha,

Yes, thanx, Les, there's some fun in those pages. Odd tho, there aren't pertinent options/effects noted, like in/out gliss'. I wonder if the wording came straight from Roland Ball, via DM? |

Les,
Your post was extremely helpful. This kind of post makes it easier for us who rely on tablature.
Any more posts like this will be helpful coming from you or anyone else.
Jeff, I would like especially to see Page 32 - Pua Carnation Medley just to see how the the tab is done.
If that looks good then I would like to see the following Hawaiian songs -
Pages 10 - Honolulu March
Pager 14 - Down Honolulu Way
Page 57 - Aloha Land
Page 49 - Aloha Oe Waltz
Page 61 -Isles of Aloha
Aloha,
Don |

No worries Don. I'll post it as a seperate topic as I think we have drifted from the original thread topic. I'll lable it "Hawaiian Songs - Tab/Music"
Forgot to mention, as with most of this material its in 'A' major tuning
Hope that suits?
Thanks Les for your post, a great resource shared!
Cheers

There is a lot of good stuff in there. Here is just a few:
C#m -
9. Twilight Blues
E7th -
2. McIntire Melody
20. Sands of Waikiki
28. Ua Like No A Like
29. Vamp Hula
37. Ulili Hula
42. Sophisticated Hula
Of all the Hawaiian songs composed, Ua Like No A Like is the oldest and it is one of the most beautiful.
Aloha,
Don |
