African Steel Tunings

Does anyone have an idea for a non-pedal tuning that would simulate some of the intervals I hear being played by some of the African steel players. The steel player for King Sunny Ade is a pedal player, but it seems like a non-pedal tuning could be had.
Anyone played around with these?
