Hi all. I was on vacation when the switch came and "lost" the forum for awhile. Nice to be back.
During my vacation I finished up on my mahogany Weissenborn/Tricone dubbed "The Weissonator" I've primarily been a bottleneck player and right now I've got it tuned to DADF#AD or Vastapol. This tuning is turning out to be fairly limited for lap playing (although the guitar sounds great tuned to it) I need to use at least .13-.56's to drive the resonators properly so what would be a good tuning in this same range to experiment with? |

w/a band Dobro G GBDGBD
another solo tuning I've used is

Jon, no pics yet, it's only been strung up since Sat.
Mikey, Thanks, I play bottleneck in Open G all the time and will try it.
The forum is acting funny, all the type in the posting box is coming out as dots, like in the pssword box. Hope this works. |

Mikey, It's made of 1/4" baltic birch for the bottom and 1/8" on the sides. I covered th the it with Mahogany veneer to match the body wood.

Interesting, altho I don't think any type of comparison to a metal tricone will be conclusive, it would be like apples and oranges....Did you have a tone you were searching for when building this, or was it an experiment?what was your inspiration for this project? and what type of music are you going to play on it? I realize you are primarily a bottleneck player, so I would imagine it will be a solo instrument for the most part? It is a very beautiful instrument and I just wondered where the idea came from,

Have you considered the Leavitt tuning on your guitar? All it will cost you is a set of strings, and if you don't like it, you can always change back.I think you will find Mike Ihdes'Moonlight in Vermont' tabulature that he's offering, very interesting.

I'm still getting no letters on my posting box so here goes nothing.
Mikey, this was just a wild hare idea. I'd gotten together all the parts to make a metal roundneck tricone, then decided to put it off and build a lap steel, did that and then came up with this idea. So I had no real preconcieved notions about what it would sound like. It's loud, not as loud as my steel single cone but very loud and getting a sweet tone on the high end.
I may try the tuning, I'll check out the post. So far i've just been adapting what I know on bottle neck, the stuff that doesn't require fingered chords tends to be gosple and spirituals and for those it is really well suited.

| Hey, Mike--I recall that when the forum moved to it's new server Mike Perlowin had the same problem as you on his Mac. It was resolved but I don't recall how. I suggest that you post a plea to b0b for help in the Feedback section. |

I'd be more concerned with the breast comment--but seriously, I checked some older posts but couldn't find the fix. However, a work-around is to compose the message in Notepad or whatever you Apple dudes have and then paste it into the forum box.
Not too terribly inconvenient. |

Oh sure, NOW it's working fine, after I make a couple of posts that make me look like a moron with a fetish ;o)
It's hard to correct mistakes when all you're looking at is a bunch of dots. I'll try your idea if it continues. Thanks for the tip. |
