Topic: questions about BIAB new versions |

I don't know much about it but
I'm interested in the new versions of BIAB,the ones with "Real Tracks" and "Real Drums"
Now here is my question:
Is it possible to change the bass line (or just a note) just by clicking on the computer screen and rewriting it?
Same question with guitars,drums,sax,etc...
Also can I do that with the help of a MIDI keyboard?

In real tracks, you cannot rewrite what the instruments play. If you try to do so in midi, they lose their real track sounds and go back to using your sound card.

If you had a monophonic audio track in a DAW like Sonar, and a copy of Melodyne or maybe AutoTune, you could do it. That would probably only work on a monophonic track but Melodyne is doing some stuff with polyphonic sources too now.

Usually, when I begin a new recording project in Sonar, I start with Band In A Box. I use it as guide while I'm tracking all the parts. All the BIAB MIDI tracks get replaced one by one with my own recordings. If you don't play bass or some other instrument, there are plenty of vst instruments you could use. Just put in the notes you want to hear. I do this with bass a lot just because I don't have to actually play it. And it's easy to transpose the MIDI later if I need to. Harder to transpose actual audio.

A VSTi is a virtual instrument. It's a digital copy of a real instrument. Think of a drum machine... It plays all the sounds that a real drummer with a real drum kit can play. But you can play all that just by pressing the buttons or programming a MIDI track and making your computer play it. There are similar VST instruments for bass, piano, guitar, or just about any instrument you can think of.
