Which is the better string gauge for the K & S Weissenborn copy, or for the original Weiss?

Topo,
I'm afraid I don't understand what you're asking. Are you asking for string gauges for a particular tuning you're using, or are you asking for comparisons between the K&S Weissenborn copy and an original Weissenborn? Or are you asking something entirely different?
Please clarify your question.

It all depends on tuning...but for either instrument I use D'Addario Phospher Bronze Medium gauge for low bass G-DGDGBD but I change the high D to .014plain

Yeah, I would use the D'Addario J17 Phospher Bronze Mediums for that , Personally, but I would use a .014 on top,

topo, I'm playing in open D also. I'd appreciate any news on where you're getting TAB in this tuning.
