"Please don't beat me up for this". I'm borrowing a friends 65' Twin Reverb and I'm having trouble with the settings. Its either to "twangy" or too "bassey". For those who still use the Twin Reverb, what is your settings? I'm playing straight into the amp with little reverb. Thanks everyone in advance!!!

My basic settings on a twin are:
Bass: 3
Mid: 9
treble:3
Brite switch : off
Its weird looking but works for me. _________________ Bob |

Austin, the problem is the 65 TWIN RI is not the same as an older Silverface or Blackface Twin...but it is a good amp... For me , I have a 71 SF with new Eminence speakers, ( 50 watt Stock Fender gold labels) I lean towards bright...
Bass probably around 6 but a small amount can make a big difference... Mids less than 5 , Treble maybe 6 or so, but I do have to dial it all in, old strings, different speakers etc will make a big difference..
I can't speak for others but I feel the biggest issue for many amps is that they are just way to strong in the mids...
hope this helps..just my view..

Very hard to recommend amp settings to cover all circumstances (speakers, room, guitar, effects, etc.), but, fwiw, here goes:
I used to set my (since sold) 65ri twin about the same as my 78 135 twin, just with bass turned up higher:
bright on; treble 3-5, mid 0-2, bass 7-9; reverb best avoided.
Bright on and treble mow worked best for me.

Here is what I have been with my 65 Twin Re-Issue with 15 inch Fender speaker:
Input #2
T = 3.5
M = 6
B = 4
Rev = 2
This is with a Zum SD12, pot pedal, hum bucking PU. Setting vary greatly by the equipment, room, your style, etc.... |

I agree, and one reason I might try a multiband EQ pedal before your input on a 65 RI. You can shape that 800 Hz tone out a bit better than the amp EQ controls.

I've found the mid cut to be most effective on fender amps.I believe Ricky Davis advocates mids at 0.
Once again depending on the room I like
Bright on
treble 4-5
mids 0-2
Bass 5
reverb 4 with no other effects |

As mentioned above, the settings depend a lot on the guitar used, the room you're in and the speakers. I have noticed that the treble control on a stock 65 RI seems to have a quantum jump right around 3.5 - 4. Below that point the amp is muddy - above it is bright. There is very little wiggle room between the "mud" and the "bright" zones - you have to turn the knob very slowly. This makes it tricky to dial in just the right amount of twang. |
