Will the Jerry Douglas Aura pedal work with different types of pickups? I have a Schertler Basic system on my Rob Ickes model Wechter Scheerhorn, will it work with that pickup? If so, how well does it work with those type pickups?

Well, I tried it with one of my guitars (a Scheerhorn L Body outfitted with a Schertler pickup)...

It didn't work very well...at all! Of course YMMV, but that was my experience...

I've tried the pedal w/Schertler, McIntyre, Fishman "Classic" (donut) and Lace pickups. The results were underwhelming. It is designed to be mated with the Fishman bridge pickup.

That combo is darned spectacular imho.

Yea, my Fishman bridge saddle pickups with the Fishman Aura are really great sounding combo....takes all the quack out of the sound.

How prone is the Fishman bridge pickup/Aura pedal combo to feedback? I'm considering mounting this p/u in my resonator.

I see you can control the blend of the original sound with the Aura's "image"; I assume more pedal, less original would mean less feedback.

It's much more resistant to feedback than all the other piezo's available. A magnetic pickup would be more resistant but less acoustic sounding. The lend control should not effect feedback at all since the pickup is always going through the pedal unless muted.

You might want to check out Jerry Douglas's gear page to get an idea of his stage rig. I've heard him go head to head against a telecaster with no feedback, at VERY loud volumes. fwiw

Thanks Howard.

I think I'm not up to speed on how the imaging pedal really works. Main reason I was interested was I understand it's meant to work well the the Fishman saddle p/u, and I know those piezo's want to see a very high impedance input ASAP, which the pedal does.

Knowing that the Fishman saddles are more resistant to feedback than any other is what I was looking for.

Thanks again.

I did the whole deal with the Fishman/Aura. In a band with drums and bass, I've yet to slay the Feedback Dragon. I've just about given up. From what I can tell, there are very few acoustic band situations where a good mic wouldn't work just as well or better. Unless you want more stage freedom, I don't see much advantage to the JD/Aura system. Of course, YMMV.
