"The Voice" -- I'm sad. What a great voice in his prime. His family is in our thoughts.

There are singers and there are soulful singers.
He was definitely a very soulful singer. I got to back him up as a backup vocalist Back in Toronto in the seventies. He could really bring it.

I am very sad to hear of his passing. Vern singing those Max D. Barnes songs with Jim Vest on steel was wonderful music. I will miss him very much. Our prayers are with his family.

I play his music almost daily in my car. He, for sure, did not get his due for his contributions to Country Music. While it may not be completely proper, Im going to listen to one of my favorites of his in his honor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2p8k9IET1w

The first time I heard Vern sing was with his brother, doing a song called (hangin on). He is my all time favorite singer and the epidemi of what I call real country music.
R.I.P Vern.

Sorry to hear this news!

We have now lost another great Country singer!

I had the opportunity to work with a band that opened for Vern's concerts several years ago. I remember he was just getting started then in a big way. He played a Fender Bender guitar and wasn't carrying a steel player yet at that time.

Like alot of you, I have played a lot of his music over the years. Prayers for his family and loved ones!

Just had to add a little more. I went in and put on "If You're Gonna Do Me Wrong (Do It Right). Just wants to make me cry.

My hats off to this great COUNTRY singer. My favorite of all time.

This is indeed very sad news.Mr Vern was one of my heros, and my friend. I always enjoyed chatting with him. And his singing was legendary.
I spent quite some time at Russ, and Laney's talking to him..I was doing his song 'Baby That's Cold"...It seemed to always be a hit with the audience..Mr Vern told me he thought it was one of his best songs..and I agree..
My prayers, and condolences to his family.
Rest in peaceful sleep my friend..your 'voice' will be missed by so many people..
RP...'come on in'...
