This is the instrument I was referring to....
It's not completed. I acquired it from the son of a luthier who died about 20 years ago. I bought up all his materials, spare parts and part-completed projects which had been in storage in a damp basement for many years. Notice the Phoenix emblem on the front. |

| on my steel guitar dose'nt look like it ever had a emblem on it. but on the pedal bar eched is Carl Myatt Hazel Park P.D.-M300-108-585-268. that dose'nt look like a S.S number dose it to you. What do you think all them numbers are for. gus |

Hazel Park is a town in Michigan. That suggests to me that the instrument was once owned or built by a Police Officer named Carl Myatt who worked for the Hazel Park Police Department. On the other hand, PD could also stand for Parks Dept. The number could be his badge number.

| Hi Gus! That may just be the guy's personal ID to identify his guitar if it was ever stolen. Does the etching look kinda raggedy? Like it was done with those motorized pens you can etch info on all your possessions? Or does it look like something that would have been done by the builder? |

A fellow in Clio, Michigan, used to make some similar guitars....Last name was Clontz or Klontz...don't remember much else. But he made some very nice guitars in his basement machine shop...Called his axes "Klontz Kustom"...
I don't know if he's still around and/or still making guitars. Maybe someone from Flint area might know? |

| Hi Larry, I don't have any of my old Sho-Bud of Whiteys right now.What do you think this steel guitar is. I got it from a lady years ago.It was custom made for a Carl Myatt and I can't find him to see who made his steel.There are a lot of great steel pickers who have helped me try to find who made this steel and I would like to thank them for there help. stay in touch ..... |

Hi Gus. I don't have any idea who made this steel. It is interesting though. I dont think I ever knew Carl.
I read all the threads about this guitar. These forum members are great aren't they. So much knowledge out there, and these folks are very willing to share it.

| I would suggest the number M300-108-585-268 is probably Mr. Wyatt's DL number and he either lived in Hazel Park, MI (or was an officer) and used the engraver/etcher as part of the police dept. operation ID. These were common police sponsered programs to get stolen items back to their owners, also making them "unattractive" to potential thieves. |
