This is kind of a shock. I thought he was doing better. Another hero gone.

First Dave Van Ronk, a couple of days ago, and now Waylon. Jeez Lord, let's give it a rest.
For both great influences and just good folk:

When I came on the Forum a little over a year ago, I felt a strong obligation to add my condolences to each passing. Now, quite frankly, it scares the H out of me and leaves me saddened for days, maybe weeks afterwards. I want to turn away and make it all go away but I know it won't and I would think less of myself if I did that. It's a hard thing to say goodby to a friend who has been there in song for all these years. It's just that much more I'll miss.
Regards, Paul |

I was shocked last night, The Roadhouse Kings were setting up to play in Chandler AZ. and the TV above us said that earlier Waylon had passed away not far from us.
I never had the chance to meet him, but he and Ralph Mooney had a big influence in my playing this kinda music.
We'll miss him, his music and his humor.

I liked what Waylon said years ago " If I'd a known I would a lived this long, I would of taken better care of myself" At least that is what the way I remember it was said.
So sad, no more Waymore. Rest in pease Waylon.

About 10 years ago, I opened up for Waylon on 5 shows in western Canada. He was being a good boy, from the bus to the stage, that's about it. He was really on top of his game, I think the guys in the band really had to keep their act together as he would "shoot" them with his finger if they screwed up. Never really talked to him, don't like bugging the act. Got to meet Robby Turner, what a pleasure. |
