Thurs 17th and fri 18th Greg Leisz will be playing steel with Willie Nelson on the Letterman show.

Word is he will be playing a Blue JCH.

Bob

I'll be busy being a Lonely Samoan at CB's on thurs and friday I'll be a sensitive pop steel player with Hem at Fez so I'm missing some good tv watching....

Interesting combination... anyone know how/why these two are working together?
(No, I'm not referring to Letterman...)

That's exactly what I was thinking Nick, I suppose I should whip out Willie's last few albums to see if Greg's on any of them.

Actually, I've now done what I should have done first - I went to http://www.willienelson.com/
and found out that his new album, The Great Divide, was recorded in LA with Greg Leisz among the session musicians. Appears to be another of Willie's "how many improbable duets can I do before there's no-one left to record with?" deals...

I have seen Willie Nelson several times in NYC at Tramps. He has NEVER had a steel player on those gigs. I wonder why he would add one for the Letterman show but not have one for the club dates? Different music?

Seems like Willie's recording with some pop/rock players this time around...and that's Greg Leisz normal place to be. Sorta makes sense to me.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing !!
To say I was underwhelemed would be an exaggeration but I simple didn't hear anything that was ordinary. exceptional, outstanding or otherwise. I'm sure he's a fantastic player, I just didn't hear anything
!! And I've got to play tonight or I'd do it again just hoping maybe....

Regards, Paul

I was at the taping of the friday show and Greg played great and got plenty of camera time. That JCH looked and sounded fantastic ! He was playing through an old Standell hybrid amp.

One of the main reasons I stay busy playing steel is because of doors Greg has opened with his ability to tastefully adapt the steel to new genres of music.

Check out this gig he is playing on sunday:

click on "music" than go to " New York City Guitar Festival"

Bob, you have a beautiful JCH and it sounds great! I hope mine sounds as good as your's does when Jimmie gets it finished. Seeing your's makes me anxious now.

My comments referred to the thursday show which IMHO was lackluster. As I said, I hoped fridays would be better for him and JCH. I went to the site posted and the closet thing I saw to PSG was a statement about "Guitar Like Instruments". I hope that wasn't a commentary on our instruments.

Bob,
I had no idea that Greg Leiz would be in that guitar marathon. That's a bonus. I have tickets to that and basically bought them "sight unseen." This is sounding better and better.

Howard,
Greg Leisz will be playing non pedal steels for the guitar thing. I can't go because somebody screwed up and hired me to play that day....

Bob

BTW: If anybody taped the Willie on Letterman friday show I am the guy kissing his honey in the first row of the balcony in the audience shot.

I wonder how Willie felt about you kissing his honey?

Gee Bob,
I guess Greg opened more doors for you
than you probably anticipated.
