Ken Emerson and his partner, vocalist/guitarist Michelle Edwards will be appearing at the Almost Always Acoustic Cafe (aka Pro Frets), in the Baird Center at 619 S. Main Street, Gainesville, FL Wed Oct 18 from 7-9 pm. Ken is a great acoustic and electric lap steeler as well as a skilled slack key player. He shines on older Hawaiian tunes played on his National Tricone and really swings jazz and old standards on his vintage Gibson electric lap. His "Slack and Steel" album is a knockout--one of the most frequently played CDs at my house. Michelle is a real treat. She was voted best jazz vocalist in Hawaii.
The new venue at Pro Frets is great--really cozy and lots of cool vintage instruments hanging on the wall. And how can you beat the $5.00 price?
By the way, Calvin Cooke and Lonnie Bennett knocked 'em out there last night. A great show played to a packed house.
