Very cool modfiation to a MXR Dynacomp

This is my Dynacomp, modified to be used on a steel

the actual guts of the unit are unaltered. Only the on/off switch has been changed from a foot switch to the hand operated toggle switch, and the George L leg clip has been attached to the back.

I used MXR boxes back in the 70's and 80's. Dynacomp, Distortion Plus, Envelope Filter. I put toggle switches in every one f them. I used a 1/4" - 1/4" 1 piece adapter and plugged the box into the guitar at the beginning of the song I was going to use it on. I didn't like leaving them in when I wasn't using the box, as they did mess with your tone. Back then I don't think they were true bypass.

They weren't, and the phase shifter REALLY messed up the tone. But the Dynacomp wasn't as bad.

I made a box full of bypass loops to keep the effects out of the signal chain when I wasn't using them.

I used my Dynacomp as an effect. I had it adjusted to give me that "string pop" that Tele players get. Because it was so radical, I couldn't leave it inline. I have always like MXR stuff and wish I could get my hands on some of the old pedals that I used to have, especially the envelope filter. Over the years, I have tried several, but nothing I tried came close to what I remember from the old MXR.

People can say what they want about how technology is progressing, but some of the old pedals were great. Anyone remember "The Junior" by PEI? A leslie sim that I think sounded better than anything I have heard since, and there are some great sims out there now. It had no adjustments, just on/off and fast/slow. No ramp up between speeds, but it added a great tone and fullness to the sound and sounded more like an organ than just a steel guitar played through a leslie.

I remember the Junior. Didn't Tom Bradshaw have them in his catalog?

He had just about everything you would ever need and some things you would never need! LOL

Craig. I can't remember where I got mine, but if Tom had them, that's probably where I got it. When I got divorced 10 years ago, I still had mine in a box in the loft in the garage. Don't recall if it still worked or not. When I finally got all of my stuff, there was a lot of things missing. The Junior, along with my MXR pedals and some other stuff were nowhere to be found. The ex says she didn't throw anything out and she says she looked at all the stuff she still had from our loft. Sure wish I had that box of stuff.
