Yeah, I'd like to know what the carbon material cost also. It looks very clean and techlike. Good choice. Where can it be obtained and who did the work?
Hello Chris,
since many people (including myself) seem to love your Steel's new dress, would you be so kind and tell us more about the process of putting it on?
-it is glued on top of the old mica surface, right?
-how did you deal with those aluminum bindings?
-does it require any special machinery to apply the coating?
-any pictures or a "making of"?
-Where to obtain the material?
and many more questions!
Thanks Greg. That's exactly the look I was aiming for. It only cost me $101 plus tax.
Thanks Todd, I'll get to that as soon as I can get outside and it's not storming or about to storm outside so I can get some higher res photos.
Hey Steve T. A small sign shop in Dania Beach, FL named SignCo did all of the work. I believe that the materials can be purchased from about wrap dealer. They had maybe thousands of different colors/textures and artwork just in auto=wrap magazines plus many more on the net. All vinyl, graphics and scenery art can be printed on-site but special textures have to ordered if not already in stock. It took only one day to complete mine.
Per, I only I had to take off the keyhead. He worked around the neck.
Ryan, Thanks. So far at home levels it sounds the same. I'll get a chance to play it at live volume levels on Sunday.
Pit T. Thanks a lot for the complement. The wrap is attached by an adhesive "lining" to keep everything smooth and straight as on an automotive finish. The guy who did the wrap (who also owns the business btw) cut the materials to the exact sizes and shapes to cover the wood mica surfaces. I don't think any machinery was required, just a few tools to get everything clean and smooth. It was done by hand. I don't have any pics of it in progress a I just dropped it off Monday and picked it up Tuesday completed.
That does it. That's the way I'm gonna turn my rosewood Emmons p/p black! Best of all – if I decide to sell, I assume the process would be totally reversible.
Or perhaps a carbon fibre p/p just for fun? With brushed endplates and black tuning machines and... someone stop me, please!
chris ivey wrote:it's a little hard to see, but is that your name on there?
Chris must be planning on keeping that one for a while.
Looks great!
The big name was an added bonus . It was the perfect classy font I was looking for the background color. I can remove the name from the finish anytime if I ever want to.
