Why do people mangle pedal steels by taking off the C6th neck and adding a pad?

Why do people remove the C6th neck from their pedal steel guitar? I have never understood why anyone would bugger their guitar that way.

I was fortunate enough to catch a Ray Price show with Blondie Calderon and Julian Tharpe and 3 female violinist from the Atlanta symphony. What a show!

For my use I don't particularly need a volume pedal for lap steel. Pedal Steel of course its a necessity.

Buy an original Stevens bar, which is easy to hold, don't cost a ton and last for quite a while even under extreme usage. Stevens bars were also used by players like Buck Graves in the 1950's they did ...
