Depending on the fret you are at, to play a scale, sometimes you need the D next to the Eb, other times you need a C# next to a D#.

The changer is quite interesting. Looks like the fingers pull the string and the rest of the bridge are rollers. Hard to tell with certainty from the pics though.

They can be found - just not in the conventional go to places - and you can't be fussy on brand.
