All of Doug's lap steel stuff at the The Steel Guitar Convention is awesome.

Has the cleanest right hand in the business.

Only cleaner player would be Tommy White - but I've never heard him play ...

With regards to Pickups sounding like guitars - is nonsense.

BTW Barney Kessel liked and Charlie ...

If I had a pedal steel with whatever changes I could use it would be E13#9/F as a starting point

Then use pedals and levers to alter
string 1 - up one step
String 7 - up/down half step
String 8 ...

Anywho retune if you need to

Sounds like practicing in all keys may be the best long term answer but that takes time to self study.

On the short scale I use heavier strings to get more sustain but longer scale definitely need thinner pedal steel gauges.

Same question for a b9

Which Sam ...

I think you're looking at the tuning in a weird way. Hence why you grab the 6th. A 6th tuning is really a m7.

So don't think of it as C6 think of it as Am7

m7 is not dated???

PS

If you’re from a guitar background E13 makes more sense once you study it and translates extremely well.

Eg 3rd fret is G
8th fret is C etc
