Our Local local anodizing shop in Santa Rosa, CA. has a minimum fee that a job like yours would be charged. It used to be $80, but I'm sure its more now, certainly way under the $500 you mention.

On ZB Custom guitars, notice the nut has 2 slots and screws that look to be for adjusting the location of the nut. I wonder if they were for adjusting intonation.

I don't think I've ever seen a plain string, .026 or anything else, on string 7 F#.

I'm pretty sure I have never seen it either.
