Bill, I have always used a dowel with a hole in the middle as a pulling tool. Your Steel should have come with one.

Those Sierra's are very easy to work on, should you decide to experiment.
I also have one very similar.
Jim Palanscar has many parts for these Steels.

I would just go with the G#-to-G.
You can slam that lever and be dead on.
I think the reason this change gets Pa-Pood so much by Steel Players is that it's a guitar-player-knowedge based change.
